If you look at the Categories for posting you'll notice one called "Other Literature". You'll also see one called "Non Fiction". Right now, because the site is new, all books are to be discussed on this board (except, obviously, WoT, because there's clearly enough discussion for a separate board there). Perhaps in the future we'll have enough traffic and interest to warrant splitting those into another board called "Other Books" or something similar.
But the Other Fiction does seem to be somewhat of a temporary addition to this MB. The main idea for readandfindout was to focus on SFF. Plans do change though.
We could do an Other Fiction book, and we'd probably have good participation, particularly among people who aren't as into SFF as the rest of us. But I don't think we should do Other Fiction too often.
It is good to encourage involvement for those who enjoy a wider range of books than just SF/F.
True. But that just feels more like something we'd do after the Book Club is a more established feature of the site.
It's ok, poppet, it is a VERY GOOD plan.
I'm sure it is. Just offering my opinion, for what it's worth. I've been very pleased with how this site has been managed so far, and with this MB in particular. I just think that we should concentrate on SFF for now, and branch out later.
Gah, upon previewing I noticed this can sound very condescending. I did not mean it that way. I was just offering my opinion, but at the same time, I know how annoying it is to be in charge of something and work hard on it, and have an outsider talk like they can do a better job. I'd prefer to do an SFF Book Club. But if you think we need to do an Other Fiction Book Club to get participants that we normally wouldn't have (those snobbish types ), that's fine too.

Nice idea, but we'd really like the book club to be used to encourage people to read books ...

I wouldn't mind doing an Other Fiction book, but this is a science fiction fantasy MB.
