The obvious conclusion I have drawn is that this refers to Ambrose, and is the reason why Kvothe is expelled from the university. However surely he would be more than expelled if he killed someone with what I assume is Naming, magic certainly. So there must be mitigating circumstances...but what? What but his love of music or his love of Denna could drive Kvothe to kill at this point? So does Ambrose attack Denna? But wait, a fountain...there's a marble fountain in the central city courtyard outside the Eolian...so music and Denna? An Inn burning down, Denna inside? Who knows...but you begin to get an idea of how my mind works and how it is these kind of lines dangled before me that lead me on and make me want to know.
