at least smaller than the niche I used to be in. Or that's what I'm guessing from trying to answer questions from friends and acquaintances about what I'm read. I say Sci-Fi and Fantasy and they go "Ah...you mean Tolkien/Pratchett/Asimov..." and I answer "yes, but no...."
It's really annoying trying to explain and the only reaction is a confused silence. One of my friends even told her previous boyfriend about my craziness with books so he wanted to see it with his own eyes. He told me that he used to read a lot of fantasy books, but after he looked at my bookshelves and only recognizing my Tolkien and Robert Jordan books, I realised that I don't know anyone in RL who reads what I'm reading or who is familiar/know about the books I'm reading. It's only some of you guys here that can relate to or do know about these books.
I'm glad to have found this community and been given the opportunity to find books and authors I would probably never found by myself. And that's mostly due to you, April, and Anastasia. Both of you introduced me to smaller niches. I always keep an eye out for recommendations from you.
I agree with you of sometimes feeling a bit lonely when a lot of people seem to read more mainstream books. But I guess the fault is partly ours too for not writing reviews and talking more of not well-known books and authors.
