I just don't enjoy staring at a screen to read a book after staring at a screen all day at work. I am also something of a collector when it comes to books, so I like having shelves of different colors, sizes, and types of books.
I wouldn't call myself a collector, by any means. I much prefer the story that exists between the covers more than the covers themselves, but I am very much a bibliophile. I'm also on my computer a lot, either at work, school, or surfing the Internet at home. The last thing I wanted was another screen to stare at.
What finally prompted me to get the Kindle though was the thought of all the books I could carry around with me, instead of only picking two or three to take on trips, or to work in case it was a slow day. And really, it's nothing like a computer screen at all. There's no backlight, and it's only text, so there's no glare, and no eyestrain. I've literally read for hours on my Kindle with no problems at all.
Granted, there are a lot of people that aren't interested, and I used to be in that crowd. I just figured this would be a good way to get people introduced to the product, without having to shell out $260 first.

Interesting marketing move. I think one of the biggest things people hold out on concerning ebooks..

Agreed. I've found myself very pleasantly surprised; I often forget I'm using an ereader.

I'll be interested when they stop the idiocy that is Kindle-only books. *NM*
