Now this Ambrose point I absolutely agree with. It really annoyed me

But overall, it really didn't have the same feel. It's much broader in scope.
The only part that really stuck out to me was not the University itself, but the whole Ambrose thing. He seemed very Draco-like in his animosity. "Hello, I don't know you or anything about you, but I'm going to pick on you once and we shall become bitter enemies for life."
Really?

Really?
Not because of any Harry Potter similarity I hasten to add, indeed Draco probably did have some reason to dislike Harry since Harry was infamous after all.
But Ambrose and Kvothe was so forced. It was almost as if the author sat and thought to himself "I need an enemy at university, someone who will be annoying at 1st, dangerous in the middle and probably (we've yet to see) responsible for a big shift in the story later." (i'll go into my expectations of ambrose later).
Having had this thought, he then decided he needed said character quickly, and so made up the most ridiculous little scene going for the enmity (which was far too overblown for the situation) to begin. And all of this on day one at Uni. It all seemed far too rushed and forced, and just left a bad taste in the mouth, it didn't sit well at all with the more measured pace of the rest of the book. So yes, it's the one thing that really annoyed me
November Book Club is now open! The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

It's almost as if the author decided there needed to be a little adventure to move the story along.

The book has been compared with Harry Potter. Do you think this is fair? Why/why not? *NM*

I really couldn't say whether it was fair. Seems a weird judgement to me.
