Just finished this yesterday, it is only the second novel of his I've read, after The Alien Years (I've read some stuff he co-wrote with Asimov, as well as collections he edited).
I enjoyed it, although I wouldn't call it a great novel myself. I know Silverberg is a legend (pun intended) in SF, but I've never really gotten around to him.
LVC was pretty interesting though. The opening two words really stood out to me; "And then," seemed to pound home the idea to me that Valentine was suffering loss of memory of everything that had happened to him up until that point. I also enjoyed the juggling aspects of the story, as I taught myself how to juggle ages ago (nowhere near as good as Valentine, let alone the other characters, I can't even keep four balls going at once, nor can I juggling clubs).
One thing that I couldn't get out of my head was the feeling that I was reading more of Clive Barker's Abarat series. Nothing really in common with it, except for a strange bizarre world with a central island around which the others encircle.
The use of a science fiction setting to tell a fantasy story (nice blend he did there) was cool.
Not sure yet if I intend to read more of the Majipoor series or not.
What do you good folks think of the series?

Death to the Regressives of the GOP and the TeaParty. No mercy for Conservatives. Burn them all at the stake for the hateful satanists they are.
