i understand. i'm trying really hard to read gardens of the moon, which is the first book in the erikson series, and i just can't make it cohesive enough for me to actually like it. it's not like i can't remember all the characters, or whatever, it's that there's never enough story in a row to make anything worth getting invested in. it's like he punishes you for starting to give a crap about the story by changing to something completely new the moment it gets slightly coherent/interesting. it's incredibly annoying. it's incredibly popular, and so many people like it, but i'm thinking about ditching the book, and i read through just about everything.
so, unknown underappreciated authors... hm. linda jaivin, an aussie author who wrote a cool book called "eat me," and now i can't remember any of the others. oh well!
