It is quite remarkable.

Stephenson has a way of writing that very completely immerses me into the world and setting of his story.

It is rather odd.
As I read it, I find I get distracted by all the odd things he remarks on, and I have made a very bad habit of checking his facts (I am trying to stop, as it is rather time consuming). But when I put the book down, I find I have a very vivid picture of what happened. It is very, very odd.
