Once again I'm trying to plow my way through Dune

This must be my third of fourth time trying to read Dune. My best result this far has been the part where the kid who ought to ripped apart piece by piece for being so disgusting, and the only tolerable character in the book are left to the desert. (Paul and Jessica, I think they're called).
1. How the hell can you like Dune? It's supposed to be, like, a masterpiece, after all. More like a piece of crap.
2. How can one tolerate the characters? They're inhuman and arrogant (so, so arrogant!) and just plain disgusting. My favourite characters are the Harkonnens
3. How do you pronounce Kwisatz Haderach? I say it like it was Germany (well, more like if it were Finnish, but that wouldn't tell much)
4. WHAT do words like faufreluches (which I guess isn't English), quasi-fief, fief-complete, hodded, baliset, gestalten etcetcetc... mean?
Don't answer that I like the language of the book, though. Shows how much English there still is for me to learn. But it's hard!
