A lot of people start hating him after book two or three. I think I enjoyed it through book 5, though. After that came Faith of the Fallen, which I thought was awful.
Whilst Naked Empire and Pillars of Creation were steaming piles of manure, with Soul of the Fire not hugely better, I thought Faith of the Fallen was one of the best in the series.
I'd go so far to say, putting aside the fantasy element of it, it should be required reading for anybody who leans to the Left. I guess if you lean that way, the lesson of your stupidity hitting you as blatantly as it does in FOTF could grate.
