Hello and welcome, dear RAFOnauts, to yet another installment of "Tavi Wants to Feel Useful" Theater. He's still struggling with the difficult concept of "originality" so his post this week is the same as last week's: free ebooks. Like any of you care about that sort of thing.
Last week we took a detour to the land of thrills with J A Konrath. If you missed my post last week (or came down with a bad case of not caring) you should check it out. There are three novels, and a few collections of short stories offered free of charge in Adobe (pdf) format.
This week brings us back to the world of science fiction. The lucky target of my attention is Jeffrey A Carver, who has six books and five short stories listed for free download in a variety of formats.
For anyone missing Battlestar Galactica, he wrote a novelization of the miniseries that Tor had offered for free during a promotion for their newly designed website. Though Tor's offer has expired, the book is still offered for free on Carver's website. No one will ever accuse me of being a great judge of quality writing, but I enjoyed the book. Hopefully you will too.
He also has all four books in his series "The Chaos Chronicles" listed for free. The most recent book, Sunborn, is only going to be offered for free until the Tor ebooks become available.
The sixth book offered, Eternity's End, is the only one I had some doubts about picking up. It's the fifth chronological book in a (so far) six-book series. I just downloaded it, so I can't say if it works as a standalone novel, or if the prior books are necessary to understand the storyline. If someone reads it before me, a review would be spectacular.
Mr. Carver also has five short stories listed in HTML format. If you don't like reading stories out of a web window, there are a few different software options that can convert the story into a separate file.
I'm just doing my part to help you waste time that could be spent on more productive ventures. Happy reading
