Though I have to say the only recommendation I could make either way is Barbara Tuchman's "The Proud Tower". Which from what I recall does cover Europe and the US, at least to some extent. It's definitely an interesting period, if others can make recommendations I might check those out too...

Yep, it slowed down a lot some time ago, since then it's been kind of stable at a low level, I guess... I'm not sure we actually lost that many members, but most people have become a lot less active in posting new things. And it's not like we get any new members obviously.
