One rule and one preference and one exception to the rule.
The rule: A language I speak. That limits it to Latin and English. I can't handle translated poetry. Middle English is OK if you can recommend an annotated edition.
The preference: Female poets. Especially older ones. I want more than just women, but I'd like people to consider women whose poetry they've enjoyed while answering.
The exception: A good book on Sappho.
