Tricky, mostly because I don't remember everything I read last year... Legolas Send a noteboard - 08/01/2015 06:10:50 PM

Among the ones I remember reading or talking about, it's easy enough to get to five, as I really haven't read all that many:

  • Henry James, Portrait of a Lady
  • Almudena Grandes, El Corazon Helado (The Frozen Heart)
  • Christopher Clark, Sleepwalkers (history book on the outbreak of WW1)
  • Choderlos de Laclos, Les Liaisons Dangereuses
  • Gustave Flaubert, Salammbo

The trilogy as a whole is a lot of fun, but not sure if the third book quite fulfilled the promise of the first book. I don't generally like it much when the third book of a trilogy suddenly pulls new villains or new threats out of thin air and acts as if everything that came before was just warming up. In fact, I read the book half a year or so ago, and can remember really very little of the climax of the final book - less than I can remember of the previous books that I read years ago.
