View original postI'm giving The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant another shot, as I hate having half-read books in my collection. But I find Stephen Donaldson's style to be quite pompous, especially with sections like this:
... and pretty much for that reason, I've tried Lord Foul's Bane quite a few times and might try it again someday but the arcane words are a real turn off. At least when Gene Wolfe does it in his Book of the New Sun it adds to the distant dystopia future feel, familiar but arcane.
