Going back and forth between Gaskell and Feuchtwanger for the time being - Edit 1

Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell and Erfolg ("Success" by Lion Feuchtwanger, that is. So far the Gaskell is good but not spectacular (in a league with Trollope rather than with Eliot and Dickens, say); Feuchtwanger is excellent though long and somewhat slow-moving (and reading it in the original German doesn't help with the reading speed).
