Going back and forth between Gaskell and Feuchtwanger for the time being

Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell and Erfolg ("Success" ) by Lion Feuchtwanger, that is. So far the Gaskell is good but not spectacular (in a league with Trollope rather than with Eliot and Dickens, say); Feuchtwanger is excellent though long and somewhat slow-moving (and reading it in the original German doesn't help with the reading speed).

It's now Gregory the Great's, patron saint of teachers, feast day. What are you reading in Sept.?
