Rather, I did a few times in high school. I loaned out De Bello Gallico to a friend in my Latin class and got it back in bad shape (though I do feel sort of bad because the girl died a few years out of college of a brain aneurysm and she was a good person). Then I loaned out a book on the Mossad to a slacker friend and haven't gotten it back.
As a result, my response when people ask about borrowing a book is that as soon as I get back that book on the Mossad, I'll consider loaning out books again.
