Ulysses was abysmally awful Tom Send a noteboard - 04/01/2013 02:31:04 AM
The only reason that I finished it was because then I could say, legitimately, that it was a pile of shit with no redeeming literary value, no matter what some asshole tries to say about it. I guess I could do what Jung did, fall asleep after a few hundred pages and then write a scathing précis that very effectively called into question the author's literary talent, technical ability and mental sanity, but instead I just read through the book.

Dune, on the other hand, is a book that we know has no literary value, and which is not held out as a work of art, or a "great book of the Western canon", or serious literature. It was written, ostensibly, for entertainment and as a very blunt metaphor for the effect of oil on the Middle East so transparent a child could see it.

So no, not planning on wasting my time reading it to the end.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius

Ummaka qinnassa nīk!
