He had a unique and different take on Pope Julius II, who has always seemed a terrible pope to my mind. I also found it amusing that he attributed the "barbarous" behavior of the Spaniards in Italy to "non-Western blood" in their past. If only he lived to see what the Germans did in the two World Wars...
