That was back when I wrote less in-depth reviews and it's been a while since I read it, but what I'd say about the new collection is that Díaz's "voice" is stronger here, as he looks at ways in which relationships fail. The slang, the profanity – they're still there – but there's more vitality in the collection. "The Pura Principle" will break your heart...if you have one :P
