The later books do add more context and change some of this snoopcester Send a noteboard - 19/08/2012 12:08:49 AM
For me it doesn't add that much to it though.

Finally, history. I can see the allusions to the War of Roses, though not as much as I had expected. There certainly does not seem to be any clear overlap between the two. I imagine the main overlap will be the reconciliation of two warring factions through a figure who takes part in both. Say, Jon Snow.

It seemed quite strong to me, like the starting point for Martin was reading a history book about the War of the Roses then reworking it. It is jumbled up but there are characters through the story who just feel to me like they are lifted from it, though reworked or moved in context.

Robert Graves "There is no money in poetry, but then there is no poetry in money, either."

Henning Mankell "We must defend the open society, because if we start locking our doors, if we let fear decide, the person who committed the act of terror will win"
