Nieces, nephews, friends' kids - seriously, you don't know until you have to do it yourself. You don't know what your threshold is on "they'll do it my way or the highway" until the kid screams for hours over the course of days about something.
but you clearly don't understand the power of duct tape...

but yah, that always is a super annoying thing to hear from people (in any context, actually). "Oh that's what you think now, but all your previous experience on this subject is really totally misleading because blahblahblahblah, and you'll REALLY KNOW when you're in my shoes!!" Like I said, I understand where you're coming from and you're likely totally correct! But it's SUPER annoying to be told the above and doesn't really accomplish more than annoy whomever you're telling. Not to mention that there are always exceptions and it's presumptive to assume you know the details of another's situation.
