Was one of the first fantasy novels I bought. Also the worst novel I ever tried to read. I still shudder at the cliched characterization of that bad guy what'shisname, and his oh so evil laugh while talking about raping boys, because Goodkind needed to drive the point home that his bad guy was indeed bad. And from everything I've read, it was even more contrived after that.
Horrible writing. Didn't make it past that part.
