The Bloody Nine seems like he would be right up your alley.

but he/she did say he/she disliked Game of Thrones, and I'm guessing the violence and harshness have something to do with that... as I understand it, Abercrombie is as bad or worse in that regard?


They are truly the most violent thing written in the genre, but that doesn't mean they aren't light hearted about it. The theme of just accepting that sometimes you gotta do some violence in order to achieve a greater good or just survive is done with so much humor that even the worst battle will make you smile.

They are enjoyable in a very different way than Wheel of Time, but they fit the recipe above rather well. (Especially for Mat fans.)
