De Beauvoir wrote an essay about Sade which I think might be an interesting read. The book was deeply creepy.
I also gave up on Swann's Way and Sodom and Gomorrah because they were boring as hell. Although I absolutely loved some of the sprawling sentences. Like the ones about homosexuality. Odd little pieces of queer art.
The Brothers Karamazov is one that I inted to finish some day. I also have this book called "Vedic alternative to Darwin's Theory" that I happen to own but don't plan on reading soon.

Have you ever stopped reading a book because you really don't like it?

Reading anything Victorian or older in Dutch translation tends to be a bad idea, agreed.
