Guides for formatting Kindle personal documents

I'm looking for a good guide for formatting personal documents that I send to my Kindle. Specifically, I'm looking to add indents to paragraphs and figuring out why none of the pictures in the document are showing up as anything other than dark blocks.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
