NIGHT OF KNIVES takes place before GARDENS OF THE MOON but is actually best-read before THE BONEHUNTERS, as some NoK characters show up in TBH.
At the end of THE BONEHUNTERS the storyline breaks into two strains. If you want to follow the adventures of the Bonehunters, Tavore and company, read REAPER'S GALE (Erikson #7). If you want to follow the adventures of Nil and Nether, the Wickans and events back in the Malazan Empire, read RETURN OF THE CRIMSON GUARD (Esslemont #2).
STONEWIELDER (Esslemont #3) is more or less a direct sequel to RETURN, so you may want to read it immediately. However, it also refers to events in TOLL THE HOUNDS (Erikson #, so you may want to read it a bit later, say just before Erikson's duology of DUST OF DREAMS/THE CRIPPLED GOD (Erikson #9/10).
ORB, SCEPTRE, THRONE (Esslemont #4) appears to pick up shortly after THE CRIPPLED GOD and the rest of ICE's books will take place sequentially after that.
