That just suggests to me that the guy is a bad author.

I read a book awhile back that was pretty light on violence. It was " Across the Face of the World" by Russell Kirkpatrick. He used the landscape and weather patterns for most of the conflict. There were only a few very short fights in the book. I found it extremely boring and was extremely disappointed that I bought the whole trilogy before finding out about it.
A good author can make pretty much any concept enjoyuable.

Fantasy is really just one of three things when you break it down.

I didn't say it's the acceptable choice. It is the best way, however, to get a definitive resolution

There are lots of good non-violent fantasy novels.
