The longer the series drug on the less and less interested I was. The first book was easily my favorite, and I really liked everything through The Wastelands. After that...Wizard and Glass, and Wolves of the Calla...were a drag, and I've not even started Song of Susannah yet. I just find I don't really care anymore.
I have to agree that Wolves was fairly lackluster--I think at least half the book could have been trimmed--but W&G might have been my favorite of the series.
Gunslinger and Wizard and Glass are hard to split for my favourites. Drawing of Three and The Wastelands are also top notch.
Book 5 is still good, books 6 and 7 though are only ok - certainly not the quality of story of the first ones.
And it's easy to pin-point where the series jumped the shark. When King wrote himself into it as a character.

The problem is that the first book is wildly different from the others in style
