The weekends never were the most active time here... which I never did get.

I have long wondered what it says about American labour productivity that this site and its predecessor always seemed the most active (the boards, at least) during American working hours.
Erm. Wasn't really planning to... though as it happens I'm currently reading Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence, which I imagine isn't really what you had in mind when you wrote "darker", but is still depressing enough to count as "dark" in my book. Rest of the month will probably see me going back to my neverending Qur'an, so likely not many new "darker fictions" reads, no.
Heard of Ligotti and Kiernan, and Brite's name looks familiar too. Kiernan's the only one I can name a title of, though, and I haven't read any book by any of them.
I do read and review fictions. And non-fictions for that matter. Perhaps not as many as I'd like, but oh well. I think I'll write a review of the book on the early Muslim conquests that I just read while on holiday.
I have not.
Yes, I've read Maus.
Having heard nothing about this until now, I'm going to have to guess that it's something about the writing of Maus? Which seems kind of odd because Maus was already about both the Holocaust and the difficulties in getting past it... seems like this would kind of cover the same ground in that regard. RandomHouse's website seems to confirm that... if it really comes with audio interviews of Spiegelman's father, that could certainly be interesting, but it feels a little too invasive to me somehow - it was bad enough to show the man's dark sides to the world in Maus.
No, I'm not starting a thread for October reads...or at least not alone. Just a few questions:
1. Do you try to read "darker" fictions in October compared to other months?

2. Have you read (or heard of) any of the following: Michael Cisco, Thomas Ligotti, Ramsey Campbell, Poppy Z. Brite, Caitlín Kiernan?
Heard of Ligotti and Kiernan, and Brite's name looks familiar too. Kiernan's the only one I can name a title of, though, and I haven't read any book by any of them.
3. What is your main excuse for not reading and/or reviewing fictions?
I do read and review fictions. And non-fictions for that matter. Perhaps not as many as I'd like, but oh well. I think I'll write a review of the book on the early Muslim conquests that I just read while on holiday.
4. Have you heard that Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus is one of THE books to be published this year? If so, have you bought it or are considering reading it?
I have not.
5. Art Spiegelman's Metamaus comes out on October 4. Two-parter:
A. Do you know who Art Spiegelman is?
Yes, I've read Maus.
B. Are you intrigued by the book?

If a new month begins on a weekend, do any of the Admins recognize it before Monday?
