A long time ago I read a story that had that "magic" element so often missing in modern work, unfortunately I forgot the name of the story and even the name of the author. Here is a summary of what I remember, does anyone recognize it?
It was a short story, part of a compilation, about a man who finds a note left describing a horrendous encounter with intelligent animals hunting him, leaving the impression the writer of the note was indeed killed.
I have a vague memory that the story was written by a criminal/mystery writer from England (maybe wrong), but the setting of the story was probably in South America.
Sorry, but that is all I remember other than the excellence of the writing.
Does anyone have a clue?
