How did it progress? I could see it not being as tedious if read one chapter a week, for example. Even then, I think I got most of it from just reading it. A different style in every chapter, trying to parallel The Odyssey, using lots of pretentious references to Greek and Latin...I could even fairly say that I hated it despite its pretentiousness.
