The length has nothing to do with it Tom Send a noteboard - 13/09/2011 05:57:27 PM
I'm not sure you want to admit to reading Wheel of Time multiple times. It's like spending an entire weekend watching Benson re-runs. The sense of pissing away one's life is palpable.

There are plenty of books that are longer. War and Peace, Les Miserables, A La Recherche du Temps Perdu, La Divina Commedia, Bleak House, hell, even Foucault's Pendulum is longer if memory serves.

Ulysses is a book that people tend to read to be able to say they've read it because (1) it purports to be a work of literature (unlike WoT), (2) there is apparently a very small subset of people who are obsessed with it and think it is one of the greatest works of literary fiction on the planet, and (3) it is dense reading.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius
