How do you like your dragons? imlad Send a noteboard - 15/08/2011 01:07:01 AM
(Stole my own post from another forum to post here at what I consider my "home forum" LOL)

Dragons come in many varieties in mythology, legend and the F/SF genres, from the awesome Smaug to Dany's children, to the Pernese dragons to Hamilton's "dragon" in Fallen Dragon. Even The Discovery Channel had an episode of (I believe it was) "Monster Tracker" where they discussed how you could design a dragon using real world animal features (and some creative ideas on biochemistry!).

Dragons have been portrayed as good, as evil and as anywhere in between. They can be magical creatures, natural creatures, artificial creatures. They can be intelligent, or have simple animal minds.

Dragons can come in one color, a set variety of colors, or any color (and sometimes a mixture of colors). They are winged, and wingless. Two legs, four legs and even six legs (or more!) can be found on them. They are lizardlike, or they are snakelike or wormlike (wyrmlike?). They can have scales, skin and even feathers. They can exhale just fire, or in some worlds different things.

They live in any climate, or only some climates.

It all depends on who is telling the tale, and where that tale takes place.

So I am wondering, how do you like your dragons? What are your favorite dragon depictions in myth, legend and fiction? Do you have a favorite individual dragon (by name if possible)?

If you were creating a world that had dragons, what would your dragons be like?

Oh, and one last question: do dragons need to drink water to survive???

(I'll pipe in later with what I like in a dragon, as soon as I figure it out LOL)
Death to the Regressives of the GOP and the TeaParty. No mercy for Conservatives. Burn them all at the stake for the hateful satanists they are.
