This disagreement post went up on the Tor.com blogs today. I lean more toward its side, as it draws distinctions between different types of spoilers. When the whole story is about the surprise, I don't see the point in reading it when I know what the surprise is. For example I found the Mistborn trilogy quite enjoyable in part because I had to try to unravel the secret each book presented before it was unveiled, and didn't know the answer ahead of time.
