1. Overall I am very impressed with the job they did changes were small and most nessecary one big one I didn't like but we will get to it.
2. Well it took us longer to meet the Stark children in the book...and Cersi had children other than joff? Eh..where they even in the show?
3. Hbo really did sex this up more than I thought they had. The nudity when they received the message from the eyrie shouldn't really have been titillating and there really wasn't much more of it than that.
4. I suppose most of the sex we saw was doggy style because it allowed us to see the actors faces? Most of it it in the book was not like that at all..
5. WOW did my memory and HBO do a disservice to Dannery's first time with Drogo. I remembered it as basically being rape and HBO certainly showed it that way but it really wasn't. Yes she didn't get to choose who she married but Drogo was actually very sensitive and caring much more so than in the show.
6. Drogo's people also come off as a much stranger mixture of civilized and uncivilized in the book. I can't see the dathraki as portrayed in the show as ever being able to put on nice silks and perfume...
7. In the show didn't the Stark wife not want him to accept the hand position and he have to convince her to let him take it? Exact opposite of that in the book which makes everything that happens that much more tragic.
8. Maybe I am to used to Jordan but I remembered clothes being described more than they seemed to be. One of the things early on that bothered me about the show was that I thought the clothes were not ornate enough (especially Sansa's). The clothes that are described though are very non ornate so they may have been right.
9. Someone somewhere mentioned that due to the aging up we missed a scene between Sansa and Aryn but the only one I could see was when they were sewing. They could have included that one even with the differences in age but they didn't have to. We got all the inormation on her character that we got there in the first episode when she hit the target with her arrow which honestly might have been a more effective way to introduce her than the book did.
10. Martain is really a very good hand at incredibly subtle foreshadowing. One of the older wars where "brother fought sister" is called the dance of dragons...the more Stark like appearance of Jon and Arya does several things so very well. It highlights the similarities in both characters situations (not really fitting in), it helps to encourage the false idea that Jon IS the elder Starks bastard, while actually pointing out that he is likely to be Jon's and Lyana's. The way the "promise me" bit is introduced in such a way that it is easy to think that she was making him promise to bury her in Winterfell when combined with the importance of Black Hair in the book it is likely representing something very different. Masterfully handled. How can I get this last bit as a compliment to Martain, does he put a fan email up on his site?
