I'm not gonna try to argue that the series is an actual statement against science, but it does (as everyone's arguments above indicate to me) have an anti-science attitude inherent in it's basic rules set of how things work.
Yes, it is a fantasy, but one set in the modern (well, late 1990s) world, a world of technology and science that is not only over powered by the magic, but is looked down on by those who use magic.
How is this NOT an anti-science sentiment?

Technology isn't effective compared to magic. That doesn't make the series some kind of statement against technology. I repeat, this is a fantasy.
