I see Daenerys as another alternative Rand al'Thor clone. (Albeit in reverse). She has a prophetic destiny she does not know about, but a very tangible "destiny" in Westeros. She has had a very unorthodox childhood (unlike Rand) and she goes out into the world naked and alone (pretty literally.) She has issues and doubts, depression, some hallucinations, and a less than perfect track record with fidelity and abstinence. (Rand...) However, whereas Rand shouldered his burden with a murderous rage and impatience, treating his friends and vassals badly and playing on their fear of him, Daenerys actively seeks the one destiny she knows of with pride, kindness, and justice in her heart. She treats her friends and vassals like they are her family and she is kind to the smallfolk to the point of near madness. (pale mare)
Now, I am by no means saying that she is perfect. She is young and rash, idealistic to a flaw, but she is the best of a bad situation. And by the way, all those former-slaves who are dying in droves weren't protesting their freedom the day she took Astapor, or Meereen. The ones in Yunkai are praying for her, even knowing what is happening to her people. She makes mistakes, but better she make missteps from goodness than that she be perfectly accurate and murderous. I know, to a common man, dead is dead. But if there will always be people vying for power, do you want the person in power to be just, kind, and compassionate?

I think Tyrion does deserve a happy ending. He is by no means perfect, you're certainly right about that, but as far as characters in the series go, he's one of the nicer ones.
But even there, I recognize your point, and I agree wholeheartedly with all the rest. Particularly the Daenerys bits. That's why I was so happy with the Tyrion chapters, I think, because he recognized that being a slave might actually be a better lifestyle than that of commoners in Westeros, or at least not one that is in any way inferior. Thoughts like that, and his whole general personality, gave me some semblance of hope that a dose of Tyrion would make Daenerys finally a decent character. But considering how Daenerys does all her thinking with her vagina, and Tyrion thinks with his cock half the time as well, perhaps he won't be able to make her process any new thoughts after all.
Btw, do you see Daenerys as some kind of alternate universe Egwene clone?

It does not follow that they have the power over interpretation, and certainly not evaluation. *NM*
