I just finished book-2, I really like them both, and eagerly await the conclusion of book-3.
It's a very different fantasy book from anything else I've read. Don't let comments about the "mary sue" quality drive you off. I mean, it's a story about 1 dude, how can that be any good if that dude is boring? Things have to happen to him, he's the story! It's such a ridiculous criticism. Also, IMO Rothfuss does a brilliant job setting up the character growth, and it's often the case that the characters cleverness not only serves him well, but often gets him into trouble due to unforseen consequences.
Yes, he skips scenes which one would think he'd tell. Yes, sudden realizations seem to come out of the blue, and sometimes things are simply left behind that appeared to be more important. But none of this takes away from the story IMO, and it's a wonderfully written series so far.
In addition, as book-2 has brought new light on elements from book-1 which otherwise seemed mundane, I can only imagine that book-3 will continue this trend. Once the series is finished, re-reads will illuminate much beneath the surface that was otherwise overlooked I think.

I would slave, to pave the way, to sink your ship of fools.

Agreed. I thought he was a good writer, but I thought the plot and characters were lame. *NM*

Name of the Wind seems to think it's more witty than it actually is, but not bad *NM*
