Re: Hero of the book? ClubCaved Send a noteboard - 12/07/2011 11:50:29 PM
I think there's two clear candidates:

1) Barristan Selmy.

His arc in ADWD seems to be a mirror of Eddard's in AGoT. He's put in a seething mass of conflicting factions and tries to keep his honour intact. However, Barristan has also spent years hanging out with Littlefinger and Varys. He isn't a chump. When he's offered swords to take Hizdahr into custody, that was his 'Renly moment'. Rather that refusing, he went for it and came out on top (and got a badass kill in the process). You can see why he's called 'The Bold'. Great decisions and good calls all round. So far.

2) Wyman Manderly.

Comedy fat guy turns psychotic Frey-eating cannibal. That's revenge for the Red Wedding and he's only just getting started. Force-feeding the Freys their own relatives in secret was amusing, but when you realised he was munching them down himself, that was both sick and badass.

I think my vote might be going for Manderly here. Can we get Brian Blessed to play him in the TV show please?

I've just finished Manderly's second meeting with Davos, so I'm not surprised at Red Wedding 2.0, although feeding Freys to the Freys is surprising. But something to look forward to. :)
