As far as the genre challenge goes... Camilla Send a noteboard - 03/07/2011 12:05:15 PM
Plus: The Genre Challenge

Quite simply, just read one book from each of the genres below before the year is out. Rereads are allowed; it's up to you whether you choose all new books or not. I probably won't.

- Historical Fiction/Alternative History

Done. I have several candidates. The foremost, I suppose is Quicksilver or The Crimson Petal and the White.

- Western

I have gotten a hold of one, but have still to read it.

- Horror

Done. I read Kelly Link's Pretty Monsters.

- Mystery

Done. I read several, including Agatha Christie and Val McDermid.

- (Auto-) Biography

Well, I suppose Persepolis would fit the bill. Perhaps The Pillow Book as well, depending on how narrowly you define autobiography.

- History

Done. I read Born to be Gay by Naphys.

- Family chronicle

Done, if Brideshead Revisited counts.

- Allegory/parody/satire

Done. Several Pratchett books and a Bulgakov.

- Surrealist novel

Still waiting for that, although I suppose Bulgakov may have fitted this bill.

- Extra option for those who can: a novel in a foreign language

I am in the middle of at least two.

And we're halfway through the year now. If you're doing a 50 Book Challenge or similar, how are you getting on?

Hmmm. *counting*
I've got 31 so far. I will probably have less time read in the second half of the year, and I will have to read some longer books quite closely for lecturing, so I suppose I am on track without making any promises.
