That would suck DrJacJacMcScrumptious Send a noteboard - 01/07/2011 02:09:17 PM
The fact that it is such a strong theory is part of the reason why I dislike it. If i was Martin I'd be so pissed at everyone taking this for granted that I'd change my mind even this late in the game :P

Changing a theory just because people already guessed it would be childish and arrogant and most of all, shoddy storytelling. The subtle and presumably deliberate cues are what makes it a strong theory. Suddenly changing it with out providing prior clues wouldn't be "shocking" or "unpredictable" it would be cr@p and lazy and would be false unpredictability because not only would the tool to make a prediction not be available but the clues available wouldn't even be a deliberate mislead it would be a deus ex retcon machina cop out. If R+L=/= J, that's fine but if he did plan to make it so, then changed his mind just to be "unpredictable" when the reason it is predictable is because clues exist, it would doubly bad storytelling, not clever. Even suggesting it is a punch in the face to fans. You have to leave clues, even if they don't become apparent until you look back, that's how literature works, otherwise story twists don't have any structure and any twists lose both plausibility and emotional impact. You have made me furious with your words!

And sure, Jon and Dany could get together, since we all know that Targaryens like to keep it in the family (gross to us, but there are real world historical examples as I am sure everyone knows). And it isn't like they are brother and sister, just cousins (although that is still kinda close for my tastes, but then they are the blood of the dragon).

Martin's not gonna go this way. He knows it's gross for us and more importantly, Jaime and Cersei did that, at a time in the books when you simply hate them. It would have a very stale taste to have Jon and Dany shrug it off and just have them go at it. Not gonna happen.

Unless they aren't even related. *hopes* ;)

I include Bran in this dragon riding mix since we already have seen that he has some mystical abilities to mentally communicate with critters of all sorts (from wolves to Hodors!). Not a big leap to expect him to be able to control a dragon. Boy will THAT surpise Dany!

I definitely see that, too.
And the answer came to her instantly: pride. Oh, you hear them say it's a sin; you hear them say it goes before a fall. the shepherd prides himself on keeping the wolf out from the flock. We pride ourselves on making a good history of our lives, a good story to be told.
