Partially because we're reading so much self-examining and -questioning fantasy, I thought the books were predictable. Somehow for me they missed emotional gravity and felt, well, like an unhappily heavy attempt at reader-manipulation.

I do agree that she tied things up without undue plot unravelling and wittering, and that was a welcome relief. It felt like she had a point, she knew how to get there, she went there, and was done. ... But I was just glad it was over.
