I am constructing a course on Dickens, and so started wondering what I could expect people to have read. I would therefore be very happy if you could reply even if you haven't read anything.

Have you read any Dickens?

Yes

What have you read?

Great Expectations & A Tale of Two Cities (although that latter I read in high school and don't remember much of it)

Have you heard of any (other) Dickens novels?

Sure,Oliver Twist and David Copperfield off the top of my head. Plus he did A Christmas Carol and a similar story about and insect and a hearth I think.

Cricket, yes.

Why have you not read them?

If I made excusses for every book I haven't read I would do nothing else.

I wasn't looking for excuses so much as reasons. What I mean is that the question was not meant as a reproach; it was an attempt to find out reasons why Dickens may be selected out of a reading list or bumped downwards.

What is your perception of Dickens?

A bit on the dry side. I remember reading an abridged version of Great Expectations in high school and enjoying it, but I found the full novel to be much drier when I read it years later.

Have you seen any film/series versions of Dickens' novels?

A Christmas Carol, and I wouldn't be surprised if I have seen something else, but I don't recall for sure. Maybe Oliver Twist in school?

Pick one word that you connect with Dickens. What is it?

Dry.
