I am constructing a course on Dickens, and so started wondering what I could expect people to have read. I would therefore be very happy if you could reply even if you haven't read anything.
Have you read any Dickens?
Yes.
What have you read?
Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol.
Have you heard of any (other) Dickens novels?
I think much of this will echo Nate's list, he even reminded me of some I wouldn't otherwise have thought of... in more or less random order: Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, Hard Times, David Copperfield, The Pickwick Papers, Bleak House, Nicholas Nickleby, The Mystery of Edwin Drood (that one is mostly just because of you, though ).
Why have you not read them?
I intend to, eventually. Too many books to read, too little time. The more books I read, the more I think of others I need to read - after all, if I read one book by an author and I like it, the author's other books make that much more additions to my ever-growing list.
I sympathise.
What is your perception of Dickens?
A monument of British literature, Victorian, a lot of attention for poverty and hardship (his tone in Oliver Twist was very sharp indeed), forced happy endings. I think those are the main points.
Have you seen any film/series versions of Dickens' novels?
A Muppet Christmas Carol. Blame Angie. Otherwise, don't think so.
That one is lovely! No blame to Angie. Much praise.
Pick one word that you connect with Dickens. What is it?
Victorian, I guess, with all the connotations that word has.
