I may take a break and go back to something German before going on to Book III, but I have to say that the books are light and fun. It's like a historical version of George Martin. They're certainly not serious literature but I have enjoyed reading them so far. I suspect the rest of the books will continue like this (though I hear Book VII is of somewhat dubious quality). I've breezed through the first two in...five days I guess, and that's despite having a lot of work.
I liked book VII, it's just that it's got very little to do with the rest of the series. It's set decades later, none of the main characters of the other six books play a role of any importance, and the whole book is essentially told as a series of conversations in which a bishop tells various friends about the events leading up to the battle of Poitiers in 1356. It's a lot more fun to read than you would think, but as I said, really quite independent of the rest of the series.
Glad you like them, anyway!

I finished the first two books already - they're quick reads.
