I also don't belive that kids from the richer districts would be a better bet to survive- in life and death situations willingness to hurt someone and fight dirty is going to trump muscle! Seriously, if you were to randomly select 2 fifteen year olds- one from USA and from the Sudan, who would you bet on to kill the other one first? Yeah the US kid will most definitely have more fat stored up and probably more muscle but that's not going to make the difference.
Not sure I agree. There was more to it than being better-fed. These tributes had the luxury of years of conditioning plus combat training, as well as being better fed and healthier. To use your analogy, I'll take an unarmed fifteen year-old who is bigger, stronger, and trained in a variety of fighting styles over a kid from the Sudan with a knife, sword, or spear whose only asset is his desperation.
