You feel sad, shocked, almost betrayed by all of it but it is still so profoundly hopeful, so beautiful. By the end you're almost overwhelmed by it. And bad books don't do that.
I don't remember how I felt at the end of it. I think I was a little disappointed. But he does talk about going back, right? Maybe I could see that being hopeful. Still, what they did to him... not a book I'd read in a sad mood, but that's me.
