I'm not saying he wasn't still funny in the last two books! And he still had a lot of the good qualities I mentioned... But I felt like Sanderson focused too heavily on the slacker part of Mat's personality, including dumbing him down, which I took offense at. The best moments of Mat were always, for me, when Mat was still an unwilling hero, or even an antihero, yet pulled through anyway, as though suddenly revealing that he alone of all Jordan's seemingly one dimensional characters actually has hidden depths.
Maybe that's why I like him so much... Not because he is so great, but the others are so bad!
Do you really think Jordan's characters are all that bad? I'll admit, he's not the greatest character developer out there, but I've always liked what he created, even those who I liked to not like.

Yeah, Nynaeve throws an awful lot of hissy fits, even when the Forsaken are after them.
